No Money for Bold Men - The Shame-O-Meter

On February 28th, Senate "Support Our Troops!" Republicans killed a bill which would have expanded education and healthcare for America's veterans.

When questioned about their decision, they claimed they had no choice, since the VA had such a poor track record concerning services and spending.  The funny (funny strange, not funny Haha) thing about that...  Congressional Republicans didn't find it an obstacle, back in 2008, when they agreed to continue funding the Iraq War - despite the fact that the Pentagon couldn't account for a $15 Billion (with a "B") worth of goods and services.

As an alternative, to prove that they weren't unsympathetic of our troops, those same Senate Republicans offered to pass the bill if they could make one change: add on a bill in support of sanctions against Iran.

'Cause as every Congressional Republican will show you, it's our future veterans that we need to focus on/create a conflict for... not our past millions of them.

That's not all, folks.  Kansas GOP Senator, Jerry Moran, blocked the long-delayed floor debate on the issue of sexual assault in the military, insisting that the debate should be linked to new sanctions against Iran...

What will it take for enough good people to get so fed-up and/or angry and/or disappointed with these piss poor excuses for used car salesmen and fire them for incompetence??  War-mongering??  Dereliction of duty??  How 'bout Fraud??  Fraud sounds good...

No Money for Bold Men - The Shame-O-Meter: The Senate uses Iran sanctions to bring shafting veterans to a whole new level.

Elizabeth Warren Is A Force For Good: Day 1.) Get Sworn In. Day 1.1) Fix The Damn Filibuster!

I stand with Senator-Elect Elizabeth Warren (D) MA.  Do You?

The new Congress' next session begins the first week in January 2013.

Warren has announced that on Day One - once she's been sworn in - her first order of business is to work with her fellow Democratic Senators and Fix-The-Damned-Filibuster which GOP Senators have taken to using - in order to block each and every (Democratic or Republican) bill/nominee/budget - as if they needed to filibuster to breathe.

Please call your Senators and - don't ask 'em - tell them that on Day One you want them to support Senator-Elect Warren and other Democratic Senators in their mission to change the filibuster.  Day One is the only day that the Senate can make changes to the rules it will follow thereafter.  Encourage your Senators to make sure that those obstruction-obsessed GOP Senators can no longer just say they want to filibuster a bill/nominee and "Poof!" it's done.

Let's make sure that - in order to filibuster anything - they have to get off their fat a**es, stand up before the Senate, before the television cameras and before the entire world and remain there as long as they are intent on sabotaging Congress and America.

We all want to see whom, exactly, is doing the filibustering.  We want to shame them, to call them out on their treachery.

And, we want to make sure that they don't get re-elected.

*Do you really want to keep paying the obstructionist Senators a ton of money to - not just sit around and do NOTHING - but to sit around and - with malice aforethought - prevent others from doing urgently needed and widely-influential work?

I Don't.

Thank You.

Jon Stewart on Indefinite Detention: "You can take away our Lives, but only We can take away our Freedoms."

"You can take away our Lives.. But only We can take away our Freedoms".

Congress Passes 2011 Defense Appropriations Bill - including "Indefinite Detention" (of You & All Americans).

Pro-ID Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC): "We're facing an enemy... who will do anything & everything to destroy our way of life."
Jon Stewart: "So we're gonna destroy it before they can get their hands on it!".

Fear-Mongering (the GOP's Perpetual Go-To Method Of Cattle-Driving) rises again.

The Problem?: "Indefinite Detention" all but obliterates every Americans' Constitutionally-Protected Right to a little something called "Due Process".

Gee... Who needs Al Qaeda?
...when John McCain, Lindsey Graham, et al. have already infiltrated our legislative branch and are happily & busily accomplishing Al Qaeda's goals/doing their dirty work?

Medicare Medicare Medicare Key To Dem Win In NY House Race

You're all familiar with the chant of "location, location, location", right?

Well, in yesterday's Special Election held in New York's 26th Congressional District, "location" certainly has special significance: Historically, NY26 has always been a Red oasis in the Great and predominantly Blue State of New York (they're so Red, they voted for Palladino...).

But, oh... The times... They are a'changin'.

The highly-noteworthy (for it's potential value as a "Coming Attractions" vehicle for upcoming national elections) Deal-Maker/Deal-Breaker in this instance was, in all likelihood, this variation: "Medicare, Medicare, Medicare".

Congratulations, Congresswoman Kathy Hochul!

And, Thanks, to the Great People of NY 26 and the Great State Of New York!

GOP Senators Vote To Keep Greasing The Palms Of Big Oil - With $21 Billion In Taxpayer Subsidies

GOP Deficit Reduction Ideas:

Liquidate Fort Knox?
(This was satirical suggestion which appeared in The Onion about 3 weeks ago. And, it has actually been a suggestion offererd by some conservative politicians)

Sell Off Utah?
(The Federal government owns about 70% of the state. Armed with this little fun-fact, one conservative congress member, Dennis Ross (FL), voiced his opinion that we should liquidate Utah,)

Well... How 'bout this:
Let's end the ludicrous $21 Billion in taxpayer subsidies given to enormously profitable oil & gas companies?

 * 74% of Americans say "End the subsidies.".
* Several GOP Congress members even said, on the record, that they supported ending the subsidies.

So...Why, then, did those same GOP Senators vote (only yesterday) to keep those ridiculous oil & gas subsidies in place?

Those very same elected GOP members of Congress who most recently voted in support of Paul Ryan's Budget Plan and it's plan to End Medi-Care... those same GOP members who want to make the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans permanent... have now refused to end $21 Billion (with a "B") in taxpayer-paid subsidies which have - for no conceivable reason - been given to two of the most profitable industries on the planet.

But, it's perfectly reasonable to them to begin liquidating the gold bouillon in Fort Knox and to start placing federally-held parcels of Utah on the auction-block?

Uh, yeah... Riiiiight.

Senator Kyl Nukes Obama's Push For US-Russia START Treaty

Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) just did his part to torpedo not only President Obama; but, also the President's efforts to "re-start" relations with Russia; whilst he simultaneously extended the ridiculous period during which America's National Security has been utterly left to chance.

How?

Well, instead of ratifying the new START Treaty (which returns American investigators to live/work 'on the ground' & observe/report on the numerous Russian nuclear sites), Senator Kyl (who only recently spoke on the urgency of the Treaty's renewal) now says that he and fellow GOP Senators will be serving the myopic goals of the GOP (trying to make Obama a one-term President), instead of serving the National Security of America.

Yep, the Senate's GOP members are just gonna twiddle their thumbs (just to thumb their noses at the President) until next year.

They're just going to keep on ignoring the screaming elephant in the room...

That postponing the vote on the Treaty (until its approval will be virtually impossible to get, at that) only does one thing: It only extends and increases the already serious risk that terrorists could acquire Russian-made nuclear materials.

Gee, thanks, Jon! :P
