Regarding the 10,000 birds...
Worry not. Their entrapment was only temporary.
Thankfully, NYC Audubon & NYC Municipal Arts Society are aware of the serious danger the bright lights cause for the birds.
They turned off the lights for 20 minutes at a time a few times that night.
Whew!
That said, here's something that's a bit worrisome
(or, at the least, a wee bit nauseating):
Did You Know?...
"An estimated 90,000 birds Die each year after becoming disorientated by lights and crashing into skyscrapers in New York as they migrate south for the winter."
Ugh.
But, wait.
All is not lost, despite this staggering statistic.
"Owners of tower blocks (the Enlightened Owners, anyway) are increasingly switching off or dimming their lights to reduce the risks to birds."
Hurray.
I feel better already... How 'bout you?
